This is an exciting opportunity to become a coastal geomorphologist in East Anglia, covering an area from the Humber to the Thames.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic individual to join the Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology team providing expert coastal and estuarine geomorphological advice, guidance and training to support colleagues in delivering environmental outcomes.

With a strong technical and practical focus you will provide practical support to area teams on geomorphological issues, assessment techniques and monitoring requirements.

There is a second opportunity for a fluvial geomorphologist, fixed term contract (until 31/3/17) in Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
You'll be embedded within a Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology team in East Anglia Area. The teams are highly skilled and motivated, working closely with numerous other teams and external customers to deliver high quality environmental outcomes. We conserve and enhance rivers, still waters, wetlands and estuaries and coastal waters to provide landscape-scale environmental improvements for people and wildlife.

Major challenges include contributing to sustainable development and influencing our own capital schemes and operations.
Qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline. Some application of this knowledge practically to influence water management in ways that work with nature is necessary.
You'll have strong influencing and communication skills, being a problem solver and will use these skills to deliver results.
You'll be well organised and be able to work independently on your own initiative

You will have a broad understanding of the Water Framework Directive, particularly the hydromorphology element as well as its practical implications for the work the Environment Agency does.

You must have a full driving licence.
There are two posts available, one permanent (Coastal Geomorphologist) and one fixed term assignment (Fluvial Geomorphologist) until 31 March 2017.

Grade Rate: £26,603

Location: Brampton Office, Icenie House, Ipswich

Although these posts are office based there will be a requirement to undertake site visits and fieldwork to help resolve specific issues. There will be regular travel to other Environment Agency office locations and there will be occasional long days and overnight stays. There is no lease car provided with this post.
