We have an exciting opportunity for someone to lead a team contributing to the management of the River Thames. Our teams provide:
• A service to recreational and sport activities on the river
• Management of water levels through weir operation
• Boat patrolling to regulate licences and uphold River Thames Byelaws
• Management of assets within our ownership such as lock and weir structures
• Maintenance and repair of our sites and the water course in general
• Front line incident response
The ideal person would be someone who enjoys developing a team, loves the outdoors and meeting people from different backgrounds and communities. They would have the right skills to develop teams who have technical knowledge and share passion in improving the river and its environment. You and your team will also contribute to the wider work of the Environment Agency.

• Providing well researched responses based on sound technical knowledge and legal advice.
• Building a network of customer representatives and professional partners

• Contributing to local projects and programmes of work
• Imbedding systems of work within teams
• Participating in an incident role
The Environment Agency manages some of the busiest recreational waterways in the country. Our River Thames operations include 45 lock and weir complexes, and our responsibilities extend to the wider river corridor. Your team will consist of anything up to 12 members including:
• Lock and Weir Keepers
• Technical staff
• Field operations staff
• Asset advisors
• Administrative and project managers
Our ideal candidate would be prepared to cross different functions.
• Managing and developing people
• Ensuring operational and business objectives are met through your team
• Experience of taking responsibility for the safety of yourself and a team
• A high level of interpersonal skills, working with colleagues and customers
• Good communication skills including correspondence, administration and records keeping
• Experience of working in a customer-focused environment
• An understanding of working with Governance, Policy and legislation
• Programme and project management
We have positions covering different areas of the Thames including, Oxford, Reading, and Surrey areas. Locations can be discussed separately depending on home location. Regular travel will be needed so it is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence. As some work can take place beside the river or out on boats, you should be able to swim. Full Training will be provided as well as potential for a number of development programmes and apprenticeships.
