At the Environment Agency our mission is to create a better place for people/wildlife and to protect the environment for current and future generations.

If you share our passion and would like to help us protect the health, safety and wellbeing of those that deliver on these ambitions, then this role is a fantastic opportunity to do so.

Irrespective of whether you are looking for that first career move or want to change career direction, this role will provide you with the knowledge/skills and experience necessary to qualify for membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at Technician Level.

In this role you will:

• support specialist topic leads for health, safety and wellbeing initiatives
• help collect/collate and analyse data related to the function for example, occupational health data
• prepare communication materials
• provide administrative support to the team, and for example, take notes and track actions for the National Health and Safety Action Group or other groups and committees

In parallel, we’ll support you through a, Level 3, Safety, Health & Environment Apprenticeship which is the academic equivalent of two ‘A’ levels. Training is provided through online learning, and remotely delivered one-to-one coaching support.
The Environment Agency (EA) sits with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and our Health, Safety & Wellbeing service sits within the EA Operations Directorate but works closely with our Defra partners.
The role will be nominally based within our Bristol or Nottingham offices. You will work as part of a nationally dispersed team of professional specialists, who support colleagues by identifying and sharing knowledge and best practice.
Background and experience are not as important as your energy, enthusiasm and commitment, as the apprenticeship will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to be fully competent in this role. However, you must enjoy working with, and analysing data and be able to manage your time effectively, as you’ll need to balance your formal apprenticeship training with your day to day duties.

(Full details of the apprenticeship training are included in the Candidate Pack)

You'll be a good communicator, and comfortable working with people at all levels of the business. An innate curiosity about the subject and people will be of huge benefit as well as an excellent attitude to customer service.

Being able to listen, learn and apply the learning you gain from the apprenticeship will be essential
This is a fixed term position, we cannot guarantee a permanent role on completion of your apprenticeship. However, we will support you to find ongoing employment within the Environment Agency or wider Defra Group. Salary £17,565

Eligibility Criteria
You must have a minimum of: 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English) at Grades A-C/9-4

It is essential you meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria detailed in the Candidate Pack.

Please Note: This apprenticeship is the equivalent of two ‘A’ levels. If you hold a qualification at a higher level e.g. (a degree in any subject) you may find more suitable vacancies on our main recruitment website.
