The Environment Agency is responsible for taking a strategic overview of the management of all sources of flooding and coastal erosion. We have regulatory and operational delivery functions.

We’re looking for a highly motivated individual to strengthen and develop our Flood and Coastal Risk Management capital programme. You will play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities to accelerate delivery and develop our future programme beyond 2021.
Working closely with other teams and organisations, you can expect to lead and support many of the following:

• Provide expert technical support whilst leading, developing and implementing flood risk management strategies and projects
• Analysis and interpretation of data and evidence to assess risk and make decisions
• Apply knowledge of relevant legislation
• Working in collaboration with our RMAs, identify opportunities to improve the standard of protection provided to communities and enable successful project delivery
• Undertake outline cost-benefit analysis
• Undertake role of Senior User who represents the interests of all beneficiaries of a project’s products and deliverables.
The Partnership and Strategic Overview team sit within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management function of the Environment Agency. We hold the strategic knowledge of flood risk in our catchments and provide direction to other Environment Agency teams, partners and communities to support investment decisions. The team interprets data and flood mapping, works up projects and advises on any development that might be affected by flood risk. This role will work across two PSO teams.
The subject of flood risk is extremely varied and draws upon a range of transferable and specialist skills. Through your experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate the following:

• Professional experience and technical leadership of flood risk management including understanding the causes, management, responsibilities and the legislative framework of flood risk.
• Ability to influence, engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve multiple outcomes.
• Experience of developing strong partnerships with public and private sector organisations to identify, negotiate and secure funding settlements .
• Understands and applies project management techniques to ensure projects are delivered on time and to expected standards.
• Demonstrable application of Geographical Information Systems is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills are a must as you’ll be working with a diverse range of people.

It is a requirement to hold a Full UK driving licence.

Flood Risk Assessment/ Management
Our flood advisors play a critical role in making sound evidence based decisions relating to options to reduce flood risk to people, property and the environment. For this reason, we are looking for flood risk practitioners with previous experience of leading on / supporting project delivery.

Please provide an example where you have managed a challenging flood risk project/activity where multiple and complex issues required resolution. As part of your answer, please include consideration of the following:
• Who was involved and why?
• What decisions did you make and how and why did you make these?
• What approach did you take where the evidence was incomplete or the support you required from others was not forthcoming?
Full UK driving licence
