We are seeking an experienced technical fisheries officer to join our busy fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology team in Herts North London. The role includes providing technical advice on a range of internal and external projects, consents and permit applications, including live fish movement permits, flood risk activity permits and pre-development applications for large scale infrastructure projects, all of which may impact on the fisheries environment and resource. Identifying and delivering operational actions which help maintain, improve and develop fisheries and deliver water framework outcomes for the area is a priority. The role will operate in a catchment area where engagement with a range of statutory and non statutory partners, including rod licence paying customers, is critical to reputational management & outcome delivery. Responding to environmental incidents and out of hours working is a requirement. The post is based at Welwyn Garden City & the candidate will work closely with other environmental experts across the area.
The post sits in the Herts North London fisheries, biodiversity and geomorphology team within the Environment Management sector.
The team comprises of a range of fisheries, and conservation experts which advise across the business on all matters affecting the Agencys fisheries remit. The postholder will have responsibility for a geographic catchment area and act as point of contact for internal and external consultees.
The fisheries officer role attracts experienced industry experts with a proven track record in fisheries management, technical competency and operational delivery. Candidates will ideally be educated to degree level in a relevant fisheries discipline and have operational experience within the field of freshwater fisheries management. The role may entail some out of hours and weekend working. A full driving licence is required for the role. The candidate will be passionate about fisheries & be able to demonstrate good knowledge of H&S procedures, project management, stakeholder engagement and habitat restoration. It would be desirable to have Electric fishing experience and 4x4 and trailer towing competences.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate and influence a range of internal and external customers and will demonstrate commitment to their own personal development and may have (or are working towards) chartered status of a relevant professional body.
