This is a role at the cutting-edge of environmental permitting and compliance. At the Environment Agency you can shape the future of regulation in England. Everything you do will help to create a better place for thousands of residents and all manner of the environment and wildlife. It’s as much a personal mission as it is a professional vocation.

In practice, you’ll lead our National Permitting Service, which includes the regulation of major industry, waste, water resource and quality to prevent pollution. The large team is spread across the UK, and together, you’ll protect the environment, while supporting economic growth.

You’ll identify risks, champion initiatives and manage change – including introducing digital processes that make life easier for everyone involved. This will call for close collaboration with senior local and national leaders, as well as customers ranging from householders to international companies.
Based in one of our Permitting hubs located in either Sheffield, Warrington, Birmingham, Nottingham or Bristol you will be responsible for a dispersed team of about 500 people. You will lead teams of technical and professional staff considering applications for environmental permits, ranging from standard to complex, bespoke industrial activities. The teams work nationally so you will be comfortable with a dispersed workforce whilst having a national presence as part of our Operations Executive team.
You’ll be at home leading and managing large teams from a distance, and bring a history of inspiring valuable organisational transformation. It would be an advantage if you hold, or are working towards, full membership of a relevant professional body (or equivalent).
This is an opportunity to create a legacy on a grand scale. You’ll inspire at every turn and leave the environment in a better condition than when you took responsibility for it.
Closing Date: 25th January 2019 at 23:55 hours
