We are looking to recruit a grade 4 flood risk Modelling Standards and Data Officer.
As part of Evidence and Risk you’ll be on the frontline of providing the evidence to tackle the climate emergency.
This role has specific focus on supporting the delivery of our Modelling standards project and the Flood Model Data Improvements Project; making this is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate to become involved in high profile projects for the Environment Agency.
For the Modelling Standards project, you will be asked to assess the quality of flood models owned by the Environment Agency (EA) against our standards to ensure they are fit for purpose now and in future.
For the Flood Model Data Improvement Project, you will be asked to carry out data management activities, collate information on flood models and carry out data improvement work to improve our flood model data culture, behaviours, roles and responsibilities.
Ensuring the models we have are built to the correct standards, alongside ensuring the model data associated with those models, is accessible and stored correctly are key aspects to enabling us to provide the evidence base on which to build a nation resilient to a changing climate.
Skills and Quality Assurance are a nationally dispersed team within Evidence and Risk. We advise on modelling assurance activities as well as deliver and maintain tools and guidance to enable consistent modelling standards and quality. We also carry out skills planning and develop technical training in Modelling and Hydrology.
Evidence & Risk is an operations team of 140 people who provide expert analysis and advice to support the EA’s capital works programme and incident response
Through experience to date you will be able to demonstrate the following;
• Technical understanding of non real time models, model quality, condition and confidence and the activities models can be used for
• Technical knowledge of flood risk modelling standards and the importance of these in flood risk management
• An understanding of our flood risk model standards and Fluvial Model Assessment Tool available here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/river-modelling-technical-standards-and-assessment
• Data management skills, data analysis, data storage and standards
• Team working to achieve common goals
• Experience in prioritising and managing your own workload effectively
• Be able to work effectively in a dispersed team
The EA is a great place to work. We offer a fantastic benefits package to our employees, i.e. flexible working from home or the office, 25 days annual leave, an award-winning Pension Fund, 15% personal development time and the chance to get involved in incident response activities.

As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve and continue to develop diversity throughout our workforce. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications from underrepresented groups.
