The Skills and Quality Assurance team is a nationally dispersed team of 7 within Evidence and Risk (E&R). In this role you will lead the team to deliver learning and development programmes, develop technical training packages, engage with universities etc to bring in new recruits, and support the Technical Community of Practise for E&R particularly focussing on building technical skills in Flood Risk Modelling and Hydrology. You will also lead the team to support and advise on high risk assurance modelling activities, as well as deliver strategic modelling improvement projects. The team also maintain tools and guidance to enable consistent modelling standards and quality assurance.
You will manage this dedicated team to develop and progress our key work areas, with staff development being identified as an essential priority for E&R to deliver the department outcomes.
You will report into the Technical Services Manager and become part of a wider leadership team. You will have your own individual portfolio working strategically across the business, collaborating and influencing national teams, area operations and our external partners to champion skills development and assurance.
As part of E&R you’ll also be on the frontline of providing the evidence to tackle the climate emergency.
Evidence and Risk are part of the Incident Management and Resilience Team. We are responsible for setting standards, contributing to research and development, and we are actively influencing future change, shaping the way we manage and respond to the climate emergency. We are a national team with colleagues located throughout England, specialising in fluvial and coastal flood modelling and forecasting, hydrological assessments, flood modelling and hydrology improvements, mapping and analytics, data improvements, and skills development.
You’ll bring a range of skills and experience, in particular we’re looking for someone who;
