The Planning advisor's role entails three main areas of work activity:

i) Pre application 'cost recovery' advice;
ii) Planning application advice;
iii) Local Development Plan advice - evidence, policy and site allocations.

You will be the Environment Agency’s main point of contact with a designated group of local planning authorities, developers, other bodies and the local community.

You will proactively engage with internal planning consultees, manage and coordinate our formal responses within negotiated timescales and ensure we provide appropriate quality environmental outcomes.

Environmental matters include the full range of our remit including flood risk, groundwater and contaminated land, and waste.

You will also be responsible for project managing relevant 'cost recovery' work to your geography - issuing quotes, liaising with customers and issuing reports.
We are the Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire SP Team within the new West Midlands Area. (We have a colleague Team in Lichfield).

We are a supportive and experienced Team of seven, split btw Shrewsbury and Tewkesbury offices.

There is some flexibility with location but a majority of the time would need to be in Shrewsbury or Tewkesbury to foster good team working and understanding. (Please feel free to ask about this).
You will have a good understanding of our broad business and environmental activities, be confident with IT (hopefully GIS) and have good communication skills.

You will have a degree in an environmental subject, and preferably experience and interest in Town and Country Planning.

A strong team ethic and the ability to work independently is essential, as is a confident manner.

Good problem solving capability, and the ability to balance complex issues in preparing written reports within agreed timescales is also a necessity.

Being able to prioritise effectively is a must and to smile when things seem difficult!
