This role is an exciting opportunity to join a new team funded by the Thames Regional Flood and Costal Committee (RFCC) to support the delivery of the current Government Flood and Coastal Risk Management 6 years investment programme. If you want to make a difference in flood risk management in the Thames catchment and use your experience and skills to support the delivery of flood reduction schemes, this role is for you! We are looking for pro-active, innovative people with experience in delivering water management projects and solid communication and presentation skills. As an Advisor you will champion:
- Developing strong relationships with all our partners
- Building a strong pipeline of flood schemes integrating all sources of flooding and key stakeholders
- Enhancing partnership working amongst Risk Management Authorities
- Engaging with member of local communities
- Identifying and securing third party contributions to fund flood projects
- Supporting the development and delivery of flood risk schemes on time and on budget
- Sharing your knowledge and experience to build skills in Local Authority teams
- Sharing best practice and lessons learnt across the catchment
You will join a passionate and diverse team covering the Thames catchment outside the London Boroughs (including but not limited to parts of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex and Buckinghamshire). You will work alongside another team supporting the London Boroughs, working together and supporting each other to achieve the highest standard of service to all our internal and external partners.
A degree in a relevant subject and equivalent professional experience with understanding of the causes, management, responsibilities and the legislative framework of flood risk. Strong project management experience with evidence of successful delivery. Familiarity with the government funding approach – 5 Case Business Model would be advantageous. Solid experience in engaging with the public and key stakeholders, (i.e. senior local government officers and councillors). Experience of developing strong partnerships with other public and private sector organisations and with identifying and securing funding settlements and contributions. Experience of undertaking surface/drainage water management studies, use and interpretation of GIS and knowledge of modelling best practices. Ability to analyse data and designs to implement innovative approaches to remove barriers. Confident communicator with strong IT skills. Willingness to travel and work from various locations at our partners’ offices. Ability to work autonomously and balance competing priorities and partners’ needs. A full driving licence.

This is a Grade 5 position (£33,990) and you will have access to the Environment Agency very generous pension scheme.
