Do you like working outside and using your hands to repair and maintain mechanical or electrical equipment? If so the Environment Agency is looking for YOU!

The Environment Agency has a range of structures and devices to monitor and control the water flows in the rivers and watercourses around East Anglia to reduce the risk of flooding and also to allow the river to be used by boaters, anglers and others. These structures vary in age and require someone with an interest in working on old and new types of equipment. The Field MEICA Team ensure these structure are properly maintained so when they are needed they operate correctly.

We are looking for someone who has an inquiring mind, who enjoys problem solving and has an interest in mechanical or electrical engineering. An interest in taking things apart and reassembling them would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will start a full time apprenticeship involving attendance at a local college and working with different teams in the East Anglia area.

The role will involve going to remote sites, working near or over water and also working at height.

Part of East Anglian West Operations team, you will report to the MEICA Field Team Leader. The team currently consists of mechanical fitters, electricians and telemetry experts covering Cambs, Beds, Bucks and North Norfolk. The team works closely with Asset Performance teams, Operations teams and many other across the Environment Agency.

A full UK driving licence would be an advantage.
To be eligible for an apprenticeship you MUST:

• Be aged 16 years or older (no upper age limit)
• Have the right to work in the UK and been a UK resident for a minimum of three years.
• Not hold or be working towards a similar apprenticeship or qualification at the same level or higher. (Any higher level qualifications must have been achieved in a different sector/subject for you to be eligible).

An interest in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, problem solving and working outside is desirable. GCSE grade C in mathematics, English and a science (or equivalent) are required to meet the academic requirements of the training provider.

The grade rate is £18,233, progressing on completion of apprenticeship to £22,792.
Hours : 37 per week.

The Environment Agency take part in incident response. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role and circumstances.
