You'll play a crucial role in the FCRM Strategy Team, tackling, responding to and influencing development planning issues at a national level and developing more effective and efficient internal working practices for operational colleagues.

In this role, you'll become the main point of contact for spatial planning matters related to flood risk management, responding to requests from top office, Government Departments, Ministers and the press.

Current work includes delivering efficiencies in providing flood risk advice through spatial planning, providing technical advice to Government on spatial planning matters and improving capability and technical resilience in the work area.
The FCRM Strategy Team is part of "Strategy and Investment" within our national Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate.

The team is responsible for influencing government and stakeholders on existing and future development planning policy, as well as translating FCRM policies into practical guidance and tools that operational teams and partners can use.

Our area of expertise aligns with our “Partnership and Strategic Overview” (PSO) teams spatial planning function.
The post holder should have:

• Knowledge of spatial planning in a flood or environmental context and how it's used to deliver FCERM outcomes
• Experience of collaborating to improve ways of working
• Ability to manage lead, coordinate and deliver new and challenging initiatives

The following would be advantageous:
• Operational knowledge of flood risk management and delivery
• Proven ability to build and maintain networks across the organisation and with external stakeholders
• Ability to communicate difficult concepts and ways of working
• Experience of working across functions
• Provide advice and guidance for PSO teams

Fixed term assignment until 31 March 2018

This role can be based at your current office location but will require travel to other offices and locations, particularly London and Bristol.
