Join us as Director of Operations (National Operations) and we will look to you to lead operational planning and performance, improvement, change and innovation across our operational business. It will be down to you to drive innovative strategies and improve our processes and procedures to ensure we are working as efficiently and effectively as possible. We will also look to you to lead our approach to Health, Safety & Wellbeing as well as deliver a range of other services across our organisation such as Internal Environmental Management, Estates and Fleet Management. You will lead a sizeable workforce of circa 500 people – as you inspire and engage them, supporting them to be the best they can be. We will look to you to be creative in your approach – taking advantage of modern innovations as you future-proof our organisation to ensure we are ready for the challenges ahead.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to make a huge impact as you deliver significant change across our operational business and ensure it is embedded effectively.
The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply environmental standards within which industry can operate.
First and foremost, you will be ready for this exciting challenge; ready to drive innovative strategies and deliver positive outcomes for the environment we all live in. Joining us from a similarly complex business background, you will have plenty of experience of dealing with significant programmes and their finances, and will be used to high levels of autonomy. We will also need you to have a breadth of business knowledge and significant experience in private and/or public sector environments. You will have the leadership skills to push through change whilst acknowledging that not all ideas will be implemented.

Naturally, you will share our passion for protecting and improving the environment – and you will have the drive and determination to make sure it happens. Whether you’re negotiating with an important stakeholder or coaching a member of your team, you will impress and inspire.
