This is a technical leadership role within the Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology team in Lincs & Northants Area. It is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to our coast, rivers and wetlands.

This is one of two FBG technical specialist roles within the team leading on fisheries and biodiversity issues and delivering angling benefits. You will lead on a portfolio of issues and support and manage the team in delivering this work. The exact role is flexible depending on skills and experience.

Key areas of work are minimising ecological impacts from our own activities and delivering improved river habitats including fish and eel passage.

You’ll manage a range of exciting habitat restoration projects, help develop strategic approaches for FBG, mentor and train others, and co-ordinate technical advice on mitigation, scheme design and management plans.

FBG is a dispersed team and this post is based at our Kettering office and will also provide general support to FBG staff based there.
FBG provides technical advice and guidance internally and externally, guided by our statutory responsibilities for environmental protection, improvement and regulation. Much of our focus is on flood risk works and delivering multiple benefits including fish & eel passage, river and coastal habitat enhancements. We work closely with external partners to maximise ecological improvements in our Area.
We are a team of very enthusiastic and dedicated people who want to deliver the best for the environment.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic person with excellent influencing and negotiating skills to join our team and to take on a technical leadership role.
• Ideally you will have a strong ecological knowledge. A candidate with a technical fisheries background or with wide biodiversity knowledge would be ideal.
• You need the ability to manage technical issues for the team. You will need to be able to spot key issues and opportunities as they arise and ensure technical work is delivered by the team.
• You will be able to support others in delivering work and be able to develop them.
• Be proficient in project management and delivery.
• Have experience of partnership working.
• Have excellent communication skills and be a strong team player.
• Membership of a relevant institute is desirable.
• A passion for delivering environmental outcomes is essential.
