At the Environment Agency our mission is to make the environment a better place for people and wildlife, we work closely with our colleagues in Defra to achieve this goal.
This involves providing colleagues with the right equipment and vehicles to do their jobs. Your role is to help us ensure ‘assets’ are well managed and maintained. This permanent role will be based in our Fleet Management Centre, supporting the delivery of a comprehensive Fleet Management service for both the Environment Agency and the wider Defra Group. This service is responsible for buying, managing and maintaining a wide range of fleet assets including cars, vans, HGV’s, tractors, excavators, and boats.
Over the course of your apprenticeship you’ll learn how a business operates and be able to apply this knowledge on a day to day basis. You will be supported throughout by your Team Leader and assigned mentors and you’ll gain experience in a range of office responsibilities every day. Your responsibilities in the team will include:-
• Supporting customers and partners with general fleet enquiries
• Updating our Fleet database
• Ordering New Fleet Assets
• Processing invoices from our suppliers
• Fuel Card management
• Renewing road fund licences
Defra Group Fleet Services provides a collaborative service to all organisations across the Defra group. Employed by the Environment Agency, our nationally dispersed team is organised into four main work streams, Support services, Safety and Environment, Operations and Defra Partners. The Service Centre team has an essential role in supporting all of these work streams. Reporting to the Service Centre Team Leader you will work alongside 6 team members, based at our Peterborough Office.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following experience and skills in your application and at interview (if you don’t have work based examples, examples from school, college and outside interests are fine):-
• 2 A Levels at grade A-C
• Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels in a polite, confident and assertive manner
• Good computer skills including proficiency in Excel
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Willing to work on your own initiative to tight and demanding deadlines
• The ability to develop and maintain relationships with immediate team members and those from other teams

The salary will increase to £22,211 upon completion of the apprenticeship.
