Come and join our team at the Environment Agency. We are looking for an engagement specialist who has experience of working with the public and technical specialists on large projects, managing consultations, political relationships as well as key messages and information.
Working closely with colleagues you will support proactive engagement by working across the business to engage with our key communities and stakeholders, dealing with high profile projects and issues of high public interest. You will take a lead on shaping engagement strategies, anticipating and identifying trends in relevant political, economic, and social aspects. You will also advise on how to meet the diverse needs of customers, stakeholders and communities.
Building and maintaining productive and influential relationships with internal and external customers and partners will be at the heart of your role, as will ensuring messages around sensitive and emotive issues are clear and consistent. You will also:
• help construct and deliver multiple engagement projects
• enable, mentor and coach others to deliver outstanding customer focus
• advise senior managers on engagement best practice
• support your projects and incidents with MP engagement and executive correspondence

The Customers and Engagement team are a busy team that works with others to deliver excellent customer service in Kent, South London and East Sussex. We are the hub of the area, supporting the business by managing our relationship with communities, MPs and the general public. We manage a diverse range of requests from active and informed customers and are essential to business delivery by providing support and guidance to our area teams and managers.
We are seeking a Customers and Engagement Specialist who is:
• a strong communicator with drive, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in telling a compelling message to our audiences
• prepared to take on difficult problems that you can take through to resolution
• has experience in managing public consultations and/or political relationships
• has experience in using engagement processes such as the Environment Agency’s Working with Others or Local Government OASIS models
• proven experience of being responsible for the engagement or communication element of projects
• is a strong team player
• has excellent interpersonal skills, supported by very strong written (inc Plain English) and verbal communication skills
• is a creative thinker, with the ability to identify new and innovative engagement opportunities
Being a member of CIPR or other appropriate institutes would be beneficial but not essential.
