We have two roles available:

1. A Modelling Officer to join one of our Technical and Advisory teams and lead on freshwater and marine modelling across the country. You'll work closely with modelling colleagues, Water Companies, nuclear consultants, national and area specialists using your modelling skills and experience to influence our customers planning and investment whilst protecting the environment. You will:
- build strong working relationships and support colleagues
- provide analysis, comment and review of technical modelling reports;
- support water quality planning process using both freshwater and marine modelling tools (such as SAGIS);

2. A water quality officer to join our South East Technical and Advisory team and lead on water quality planning. Your water quality knowledge and skills will help us plan and deliver water quality improvements as part of the current periodic review process (PR19) with Thames Water. You will:
- influence outcomes that contribute towards the water quality planning process
- lead technical engagement with water companies, especially Thames Water
- support your local account manager as part of a virtual water company team facing Thames Water
- lead on reporting Water Company performance against numerous water quality indicators
The River Basin Management Service is a dispersed national team that secures the greatest possible outcomes across key stakeholders, influencing and delivering plans that drive billions of pounds of investment in the water environment. Both roles will be based in one of our four Technical and Advisory teams, which influence strategic planning for both water quality and water resources functions. We work to ensure that skills are enhanced and developed through a portfolio approach.
For the Modelling Officer, you’ll possess modelling experience, proven ability and/or knowledge including:
- freshwater and marine modelling tools (ideally in both though training will be provided if your experience is only one specialism)
- water quality planning issues
- effective working with external organisations
- interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective solutions for challenging problems;

For the Water Quality Officer, you’ll possess water quality planning experience, proven ability and/or knowledge including:
- water quality planning (including using various modelling tools)
- water companies, and how planned improvements are made to benefit the environment
- strong communication, influencing and networking skills
- interpreting/evaluating and analysing evidence to propose effective solutions for challenging problems

Both roles require qualification to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and preferably have, or be working towards, a specific professional qualification or membership of a professional body.

The modelling officer role can be based anywhere across the country. The water quality officer role will ideally be based in an office within the Thames Water catchment, such as our offices in Central London, Reading or Wallingford.

You should also understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working as part of a dispersed team. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel to meet with water companies and attend national meetings, with the likelihood of occasional overnight stays being required.

Our NRBMS modelling work is a vital component of our evidence base that contributes towards influencing environmental outcomes. Please describe your skills and experience of freshwater and marine modelling, including models used and purpose. Please also detail how you have used your modelling experience to produce evidence to influence environmental outcomes, including any obstacles and how you overcome these.
Achieves Results
Our water planning work influences planned improvements, including those of the water and nuclear industries. To use our resources most effectively we must be efficient in setting and delivering work to high standards. Can you please describe a work based example where you have maximised results by setting goals and priorities, tracking these and measuring the outcomes? Can you also include how you have taken swift action if things were not going to plan and mitigation was required?
