As an Assistant Scientist in our Starcross Organics Laboratory, you will carry out routine sample analysis to assist in the delivery of our analytical services to defined time, cost and quality targets. You will be required to use a variety sample preparation techniques to analyse environmental samples for organic compounds. This, together with the data handling of results, will require you to have good team working skills, an understanding of our quality procedures and excellent attention to detail. You will be required to apply your analytical knowledge to support the team to ensure compliance to our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you have the ability to prioritise and plan your work following Health and Safety requirements and laboratory policies and procedures at all times.
There is an expectation that you will work towards becoming a Registered Scientist with the Institute of Science and Technology as part of your own development.

You will be part of the NLS that provides analytical services to the Environment Agency (EA) and external customers. You will be based at Starcross as a member of the Organics Team. The team, of 28 staff, analyse environmental water samples for a range of organic compounds using a range of different techniques and instrumentation.
You will have proven experience of working in a Chemistry laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. As you will be working in within our Organics Team, a good understanding of LCMS and GCMS analytical techniques is required.
You must enjoy working in a busy working environment, sometimes under pressure to achieve results. You'll need to demonstrate the key capabilities as defined in the Job Profile which include; team work, attention to detail, achieving results, and communication skills.

The role is based on a 37 hour week working Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday.
