This is an exciting short term role within the business. You will play a critical role, working with technical leads and managers to deliver the high profile York flood alleviation scheme (FAS). You will make a vital contribution to the timely delivery of the scheme by ensuring our engagement work is well planned, managed and implemented. You will need to work with a range of internal and external customers, professional partners, and communities and you will have an excellent understanding of the political context for our work. You will demonstrate leadership, working with colleagues to ensure we stay on track with our engagement objectives, to an exceptionally high standard.
The engagement team is part of Yorkshire Area’s large customers and engagement team. We are a small but busy team of engagement advisors and practitioners, providing specialist engagement support to colleagues across the Area. Your sole focus will be to provide a service to staff working to deliver the York FAS.
We are looking for an experienced engagement professional, or individual with relevant engagement experience who can demonstrate how they have planned and delivered high quality engagement on projects or issues. We need an enthusiastic, flexible and pragmatic person who can reliably deliver high standards of work in a fast paced environment.
As well as demonstrating excellent written/verbal communication skills, networking internally and externally is a key part of the role. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to develop and sustain good relationships with colleagues and partners. You will need a strong political awareness and an understanding of carrying out public consultation. You will confidently support and advise colleagues and senior figures in managing significant relationships and issues.
Desirable but not essential:
• Experience of social and digital media.
• Applied knowledge of the Environment Agency’s ‘Working with Others’ (WwO) approach, or other stakeholder management approach.
Two year fixed term contract / internal assignment.
Location: based in Foss House, York.
Full time/part time considered.
A degree level education is desired but not essential with relevant experience.
Occasional travel and overnight stays may also form part of the role and you would also be expected to have a role during incidents.
