We are developing a new National Flood Risk Assessment to change our understanding of flood risk across England. This is dependent on having good local data in the right systems, and so this first phase of this project is to invest time into improving our data.
This role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with others, you can expect to be involved in any of the following activities:
• Provide technical leadership to the wider team. You will to listen to, support, train and motivate others
• Quality control model flood data outputs to required data standards
• Trouble shoot technical map edit and GIS queries along with answering more complex modelling related queries from team members
• Enable others to deliver critical workload
• Work closely with the project manager to plan, manage and review sub-contractor work
You will be part of the Data Improvements team delivering data improvements in preparation for the new national flood risk assessment for England. The team is dispersed across the country and works closely with both area teams and other delivery partners, such as consultancy suppliers. Our Data Improvement Officers are spread across the country, working closely with their local areas and will rely on your technical input and expertise in their day to day work.
Through experience to date you will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Experience working in Flood Risk Management particularly mapping and modelling
• Skills in industry standard GIS software packages, and are highly computer literate
• Ability to prioritise your own work and make sound decisions in a timely manner
• Have great communication and influencing skills and be able to adapt your style to specific customers / partners.
• Willing to work flexibly, and be able to work effectively as a dispersed team
• Can deliver through others and are willing to take the lead when appropriate
• Data management and standards will be part of everything you do and you will develop expert analytical and data management skills
Depending on base location travel will be a requirement of the role.
