You will be a recognised expert in incident management, using your knowledge to shape, inform and deliver the planning, preparation and response to all types of incidents. Working with others you will help to deliver a 24/7 first class incident management service for your local Environment Agency Area and drive local performance against the national incident management programme. You will regularly engage with national teams, our incident management partners and other stakeholders, contractors and voluntary organisations to ensure our response to incidents is delivered in a co-ordinated way.

You will provide technical leadership to others during incidents and will play a key role in assuring our response to ensure we deliver our duties as a Category 1 responder, whilst managing our reputation. You will also use your specialist Incident Management expertise to shape, influence and assure internal and external tactical and strategic plans for the Area and maintain the Areas risk register, overseeing the development and ownership of incident planning for large scale environmental hazards in the Area.

You will play an important role at a local and national level to lead delivery of the incident management business improvements such as the introduction of new tools and ways of working
You will be the technical lead in a new team that will shape and deliver the planning, preparation and response to many types of incidents. The team will ensure our incident response is resilient and we maintain our professional standing as a Category 1 responder. The team will deliver the tactical first response during office hours to the full range of incidents within the Environment Agency remit.
You will need to be responsive/flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities. Working with your team leader you will share your expertise with others through coaching/mentoring.

To be responsive to our incident response requirements, you will be able to:
• Lead the tactical command of incident response during office hours
• Provide guidance to Area/National and external partners
• Support/mentor a team of technical experts
• Gather intelligence/promote situational awareness
• Manage health, safety and wellbeing matters for incidents
• Support activities to build resilience for incident response for the whole area
• Organise/prioritise between preparation for and response to incidents
• Communicate complex issues and influence senior managers, with the ability to listen and adapt.
• Gather/evaluate complex qualitative and quantitative information/evidence.
• Prioritise the Environment Agency’s response during incidents as events develop.

This role is required to undertake tactical incident management roles during your normal working hours.
