Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4ºC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.

Field Operations protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

This hands-on role involves:
• Leading and working together with a team and being outside in all weathers;
• Some office based activities, including providing support to produce planned risk management documentation, producing dynamic risk management and unplanned risk management documentation
• Coaching and mentoring Team Members and colleagues to increase skills, knowledge and experience;
• Your team will use a variety of tools and equipment to carry out tasks such as cutting grass on flood banks, clearing debris from trash screens and monitoring contractors.
• Leading response to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating, training and exercising. Deploying sandbags, temporary barriers, mobile pumps and pollution equipment;
Our field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets (such as pumping stations, sluices and banks) and responding to incidents.

Field teams have a range of technical skills they use to deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and construction projects. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment.
They support the prevention or mitigation of incidents day and night.
• You should have the necessary practical skills and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands on approach;
• Some experience in asset operation or maintenance/incident response/use of equipment/tools is an advantage (however full training will be provided);
• You will be trained and supported to contribute to our response to incidents inside and outside of normal working hours;
• You should have an understanding of site health and safety requirements;
• Literacy and numeracy skills are required;
• Have the ability to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively;
• Competent in using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems;
• Undertake specialist training as and when required;
• People management skills are desirable.
The team is based at Short Ferry depot and the role is field based, working outside in all weathers.
