We have an exciting opportunity in the National Permitting Service (NPS) within the Environment Agency in Bristol to lead an Installations Permitting Team.

The Principal Permitting Team Leader (PPTL) role is highly varied. You will support, develop and motivate your team to deliver results to strict time and quality targets whilst protecting and improving the environment. Working within a matrix management structure you will be managed and supported by the Permitting Manager for Bristol and will work to priorities agreed within the Installations Regime. You will be part of the Bristol Centre Leadership Team and the Installations Leadership Team.

You will have to plan, monitor and control resources to maximise the effective use of people to deliver our priorities and performance expectations. As a senior member of the Centre Leadership team, you will provide support to the Permitting Manager for Bristol.

You will establish and maintain good relationships internally and externally, focussing on customer service. You will coordinate high profile cases within and on behalf of NPS. You will deliver these to the highest possible standard in a timely manner, providing briefings to senior managers as necessary.
NPS is a national service delivering local outcomes. We assess over 14,000 applications each year across a wide range of activities and permitting regimes. The team consists of 10 Permitting Officers with a range of experience and knowledge.

Installations teams determine a broad range of permit applications from a number of different industrial sectors to ensure environmental protection whilst enabling businesses to operate.
Previous experience of leading people and delivering results through others is essential. You will be able to make risk based decisions and solve problems. The technical and personal development of yourself and others is important to you. You should be able to demonstrate how you can inspire and motivate a team to achieve the best level of performance and how continuous improvement may work with the team.

You must have excellent communication and customer skills and be able to work in partnership with others. A good working knowledge of relevant environmental regulatory controls would be helpful. You must be able to work collaboratively with other Team Leaders, Managers and Deputy Directors throughout the organisation to deliver business priorities.

You will provide support to the wider Bristol centre on permit applications which are considered to be of High Public Interest. You will demonstrate good negotiating and influencing skills internally and externally.
