As a Team Member in Operations Field Teams you will be working on rivers and coastal defences, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution. Working in a team of 13 people you will help carry out routine maintenance and repair projects efficiently, safely and to a high standard often working within CDM regulations.

This is a hands-on role suitable for a man or woman, it is 100% field-based and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, with welfare arrangements being met. You will participate in a wide range of activities including cutting vegetation, clearing debris and fallen trees from rivers, small construction projects, repairing earth flood banks and building temporary defences. This will involve the use of a variety of tools & equipment for which you will receive training where required. You will often work in public areas and therefore will be expected to act professionally.

We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You will be included in our 24 hour call-out rotas, responding with your team to operate our assets such as water pumps, barriers and flood gates and play an active role in protecting homes and business from flood risk.
We are the North Kent Operations Field Team based in Northfleet, covering the area from the Medway Thames estuary in the east to Westerham. We deliver a maintenance programme focused on all sea defences, the Rivers Darent, Cray & Shuttle and 2 reservoirs, whilst responding to flooding and environmental incidents both day and night.
Additionally, we may be called upon to work across the country to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.
You should show a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a committed team player. You will be well organised keeping your tools and PPE in top condition. You will need good communication skills to work with customers and partners

We would like you to have a good level of environmental awareness. You will need some experience using, or be willing to learn to use, tablet-style computers and mobile technology.

The ideal candidate will be friendly and willing to work with others in a team.
The role will be based at the Northfleet depot, Robins Wharf, Grove Rd. DA11 9AX
