As Field Team Leader, you will provide leadership and direction to your team, supporting and equipping them to operate and maintain our flood defences and respond to environmental incidents.

You will ensure that your team has the required training, capability and tools to undertake their work safely and to act as the public face of the Environment Agency, liaising directly with customers.

You'll work with external partners, suppliers and landowners as well as with internal teams to plan the future maintenance needs of the catchment. Your strong leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team, support our organisational ambition to be world-leading asset managers and ensure successful delivery of our maintenance programme.

Your team will form part of the Operations Department and you will work alongside likeminded and supportive colleagues as part of the Operations Leadership Team.

Two roles are available, one based in Bedford leading the Bedford Field Team and the other based in Norwich, leading the North Norfolk Field Team.
The two teams comprises of a combination of field and office-based staff, including Specialist Team Members and skilled operatives who undertake maintenance and incident response activities. The teams' primary activities include incident training, exercising and response and undertaking works to maintain and operate river and coastal assets in order to help protect communities from the impacts of flooding.
We are looking for someone with:
• excellent people skills and experience of leading a team
• well versed in motivating people to deliver to their full potential, with a track record of managing staff wellbeing effectively and delivering against corporate targets
• A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk management procedures and practices including CDM and confident in managing and mitigating health and safety risks
• be an effective communicator
• experience of managing performance fairly and effectively
• be able to prioritise tasks and have the ability to adapt to changing situations
• Programme and financial management experience

Significant travel will be required within your team's catchment area, so a full UK driving licence is required.
