Floods can be devastating. Are you interested in helping us reduce the impacts by helping our partners and communities to be as prepared as possible, in places such as Hull, Leeds and Sheffield?

The Yorkshire Flood Resilience team has a critical role to play in the Environment Agency’s long term goal: “A nation ready to respond and adapt to flooding & coastal change”.

Across recently flooded communities - and those where we know there is a high risk - we work with businesses, citizens and communities to ensure they are aware of the flood risk and have considered what actions they can take to be prepared.

This role is required for our critical work to engage with our partners and communities, and to maintain and develop our flood warning service.

You will do this through:

•Maintaining and improving our Flood Warning Service
•Engaging with our communities and professional partners to help them be better prepared for flooding
•Maintaining our flood warning procedures and ensuring our flood warning duty officers are trained and capable.
•Using your excellent communications skills to liaise with our internal and external customers.
•Ensuring our data and information is carefully managed, in line with the organisation’s procedures.
The Flood Resilience Team (FRT) is at the heart of the Environment Agency’s flood incident management in Yorkshire. We ensure that our staff, partners and communities are prepared for flooding, and are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood. We do this by managing our Flood Warning Service, supporting our partners and communities with their flood response plans, and by ensuring our flood warning duty officers are fully trained and capable.
•Well organised, with excellent attention to detail, ensuring our work is delivered to a high standard.
•A self-starter, able to work as part of a team and individually, prioritising workload to deliver results.
•Motivated by delivering outcomes and thinking innovatively to develop solutions.
•Good at working under pressure, working flexibly and at pace.
•A strong communicator and able to explain technical information clearly and deliver training.

You will ideally also be able to demonstrate some the following:
•Knowledge of flood risk management.
•Experience and a passion for community engagement
•Project and budget management skills.
•Excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal skills
•Strong IT and data skills including use of GIS

We welcome applications from all backgrounds. The key things we’re looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you don’t have a degree and/or you don’t have experience in this sector.
We are a close knit, high achieving team with office bases in Leeds and York, but we work flexibly from both home and office.

Everyone starting a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed to succeed.
