We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join the Chemical Compliance Team (CCT), within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of Operations Regulatory Services (ORS), Environment Agency.
This technical role focusses on compliance monitoring relating to the use of restricted chemicals (as outlined in the Environment Agency 25 Year Environment Plan). This is achieved through surveillance of e-commerce sites and via targeted compliance campaigns.
The role
You will support the Senior Technical Officers in the team to deliver compliance campaigns and enforcement activities. You will be responsible for co-ordinating and delivering complex, technical responses to high profile queries, some of which lead to compliance and enforcement action. You will support Senior Technical Officers and Team Leader to plan and deliver work activities to the highest possible standard and, maintain resilience in the team.
You will have excellent, diverse communication skills, and be able to communicate and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external customers. You will be team player with excellent interpersonal abilities; able to work independently and as part of a team. This role provides the successful candidate with opportunities for growth and onward development.
WIRS is an ambitious, inclusive department consisting of experienced and knowledgeable regulatory and technical staff. We deliver a variety of technical and compliance related activities across several regulatory regimes; helping to protect and improve the environment. We provide environmental guidance and regulation across the UK and internationally.
Key areas of work are: chemical compliance and regulation, pollution inventory, hazardous waste, waste tracking, and regulatory returns for waste management.

The job will be within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), based with other EA National teams at Sheffield. Some attendance at the Sheffield office would be required as agreed with Team Leader. Some national travel may be required.
