We are looking for 3 enthusiastic people to help deliver the Environment Agency’s (EA) role in Defra’s Slurry Infrastructure Grant scheme. The scheme is designed to upgrade slurry infrastructure, reduce pollution, and increase farm productivity. The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) are administering the scheme. The EA will be supporting the RPA by checking applications meet regulations.
You will be part of the National Assurance Team. You will undertake assurance checks on grant applications, following our processes and regulatory obligations to protect the environment. You will record our decision-making process, ensuring consistency and transparency. You will work to agreed timescales and track progress of the application assurance checks.
An understanding of the source-pathway-receptor approach to complete risk assessments and some knowledge of agriculture and slurry management would be an advantage. Training on how to complete the assurance checks and slurry management will be provided.
You will work with colleagues from across the EA, with access to specialist advice when required to support your checks. You will liaise colleagues in the RPA Grant Service.
You will help gather evidence on the quality of applications and effectiveness of the assurance processes to inform Defra’s monitoring and evaluation of the grant scheme.
You will join the Environment Agency’s national (England) Future Agriculture Programme team. We are geographically dispersed but work closely together and will provide a welcoming and supportive environment. We work closely with colleagues across the Environment Agency, with Government, businesses, and delivery partners to create a healthy environment.
• familiarity with agricultural practices, regulations and environmental risks relating to slurry management would be an advantage
• have reasonable mathematical skills as required to check slurry storage volume calculations
• have evidence of prioritising work, delivering to time, and expected standards
• have the organisational and planning skills to deliver multiple work activities with varying deadlines.

You may work from any office, subject to agreement with facilities management and will be able to work flexibly from home. Some travel to other locations including Defra and Environment Agency offices may be required as part of the role.
