You’ll work with our technical teams to advise the 32 councils across Kent and South London, developers, partners to ensure development happens in the right way, in the right place, with the right environmental infrastructure to protect, enhance the environment.

The South East is a complex area with high levels of growth, a huge range of environmental challenges, wonderfully diverse customers, communities. You will lead, provide advice on complex planning applications, local plan consultations, project manage complex schemes advising on ways to reduce flood risk, improve, restore rivers, protect our groundwater from pollution and safeguard future supply, and adapt to a changing climate.

You will need to use your leadership skills, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the environment to:

• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with councils, developers, and consultants
• Lead and provide advice on major projects including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects
• Influence planning decisions and local plan policies
• Work with other teams across the organisation to collate and communicate our advice
• Coach and support others in the team.
The Sustainable Places team influences development across Kent and South London using a place-based approach to influence local planning strategies, Nationally Strategic Infrastructure Projects, and planning applications.

Working closely with technical teams we evaluate environmental data, evidence and assessments associated with planning consultations and influence internal strategies across the business, developing relationship management with external stakeholders.
• Dealing with and advising on complex development issues and / or on complex environmental problems.
• Working with and influencing organisations and individuals to deliver environmental benefits.
• Problem solving with the ability to work on complex issues and opportunities
• Confidence in communicating strategic and technical issues to a range of audiences.
• Team working skills and experience in managing and prioritising workloads

The following experience would also be beneficial

• Working in planning and development sector.
• Knowledge and understanding of the planning system and legal framework.
• Managing client-based projects and budgets.
• Reviewing and improving processes and procedures
• Coaching / mentoring experience.
• Professional membership such as RTPI, CIWEM, CGeog etc.

Working towards/membership of Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or other relevant memberships such as Chartered Geographer or CIWEM etc.
