The Iconic Thames Barrier & Associated Gates (TBAG) play a pivotal role in protecting over £321 billion worth of property and 1.42M people from tidal flooding in London

In this a high-profile role you will be part of the Strategic Leadership Team of the Thames Tidal Defences.

Key responsibilities:

• Manage a team of electrical specialists and technicians, providing high quality technical and managerial instruction as you design, plan and maintain electrical aspects of the Thames Barrier and Associated Gates (TBAG) suite of flood defences.
• Oversee High Voltage and control systems provision, you will act as an Operator of the TBAG flood defence and test closures.
• Contribute to asset management and operational plans and provide a strategic view for the development of future electrical system and equipment investment.
• Work with supply chain and specialist contractors in delivering Capital projects and major maintenance activities.
• Run regular meetings with your team and liaise with other Team Leaders within TBAG Engineering and where there are multi-disciplinary projects.
• Be at the forefront of maintaining the performance of the largest moveable flood defence in the UK and provide adept knowledge and guidance to teams and colleagues.
The TBAG Electrical Team consists of 13 staff. The team is made up of technical advisors, team member and an apprentice. You will be responsible for the recruitment, performance, development and people issues for all of your reports. You will provide technical support to the team and ensure that they work collaboratively with other teams and key suppliers.
• Experience of working in an operational, engineering environment , be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline/have equivalent work experience.
• You will ideally be a chartered engineer/working at a comparable professional level.
• Line management and leadership with specific focus on engineering, operational competencies, operational response
• High quality engineering, priority, risk-based decision making, including strategic planning for the future
• Managing programmes of work., change, monitoring, and intervening to maintain quality of delivery
• Effective leadership on health and safety matters, promoting health, safety and wellbeing best practice and safeguarding working practices
• Analysing current and future workload trends and assessing resourcing needs
• Incident and operational management with the ability to help solve complex problems
• Thorough application of engineering, statutory and regulatory standards and procedures
• Taking an ambassador role to effectively promote the Thames Barrier in the UK and internationally

This role is based at the Thames Barrier, with additional allowances per annum:
London Weighting £3,776
Mechanical & Electrical Chartered Engineers £6,000
After a qualifying period, Standby Allowance of around £3,300 and a site allowance of £3000.
