Flooding represents a crucial challenge now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. Having a strategic overview of all sources of flooding, the Environment Agency has a key role in shaping our response to this challenge moving forwards.
Working as a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor in the West of England Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team, you will work at the very heart of this organisation, helping to protect people and property from flooding.
This role is extremely varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills.
Working closely with your own and other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
• Working closely with Lead Local Flood Authorities in Bristol area
• Working with flood risk data and modelling to aid our planning responses.
• Influencing Local Plans.
• Evaluating flood risk assessments.
• Supporting work to deliver our Capital programme and develop our pipeline of future projects
The role is based at Bridgwater but post-COVID, we have moved to hybrid working. You will be expected to split your time between office, site and some home working.

Partnership & Strategic Overview teams develop the technical knowledge needed to deliver a strategic overview of flooding. We work closely with others to understand and manage flood and coastal erosion risk to benefit communities with the greatest need.

We work with all authorities and deliverers to specify, plan, fund and create assets to achieve outcomes, including influencing the location and flood management of new developments through spatial planning and flood risk activity permitting.
Essential:
• The ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• Delivery of work by planning, gathering, and maintaining data/information
• The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
• Good organisational, and MS Office and Teams skills
• Excellent communication skills
• A full UK driving licence is essential.

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you had:
• An understanding of the impact of flooding
• Practical knowledge of GIS software
• Degree in a relevant field such engineering, geography, or science.

You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.

There are fully funded opportunities to pursue further academic/professional qualifications. All training and support required will be provided.
