This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference, working with our Regulated Industry team.

Your work will involve:
• Regulation of high hazard industrial sites such as chemicals, oil and gas sectors and work under the COMAH regime.
• Seeking assurance and compliance with the law that risks associated with major accident hazards to the environment are being properly identified and managed.
• Undertaking inspections and audits of complex permitted sites in some of our other sectors, ensuring compliance and protection of the environment
• Responding to and investigating incidents making sure suitable preventative and protective action is implemented.
• Providing clear communication with site operators where compliance has not been achieved; what actions and measures are needed to achieve compliance and to what timescale.
• You may also be involved in regulating other sectors: Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment, Paper and Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Food and Drink, Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste treatment.
Kent and South London area has two dedicated Installations teams based at our Addington office. Our area ranges from highly urbanised South London to rural Kent, Surrey and East Sussex, providing a diverse range of environmental challenges.
• Practical industrial, consultancy or regulatory experience, preferably, but not limited to, high hazard industry: chemicals/oil and gas sectors/ work under the COMAH regime
• Highly motivated with the ability to deliver results, innovate and work with others to achieve goals.
• Ability to build positive, constructive working relationships and engage effectively with those we regulate, partner bodies, local communities, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Good working knowledge of process safety legislation, management principles, standards, and techniques.
• Well-developed problem solving, communications and influencing skills.
• Personal and professional integrity.
• An honours degree (or equivalent) is desirable, ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
• Chartered status or working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution is also desirable. The Environment Agency supports professional development to achieve and maintain chartered status.

The Environment Agency is a category 1 responder, and you'll be expected to participate in the standby rota which may include out of hours working for which additional allowances will be paid.

A full UK driving licence is needed and flexibility to travel for site visits. A lease car may be provided for business travel in line with our travel policy or alternatively a pool/hire vehicle.

The post will be based in Addington, ME19 5SH.
