This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in influencing the Environment Agency’s developing national approach to the integrated management of water. You will work with a range of colleagues and partners (Defra Group and beyond) to improve the way we plan for the water environment.

Defra have commissioned our team to develop an Integrated Water Management Framework (IWMF) programme, within the Oxford-Cambridge Arc area, to help deliver the Government’s Environment Act ambitions. The programme seeks to develop a framework to better integrate the planning of water across disciplines. It is exploring the environmental benefits of integrated delivery. The successful candidate will work with partners from across the water sector to challenge and improve the way water is planned and managed. This supports the Environment Agency’s ambition to improve the quality of our water environment.

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic person to fill this role. You will be tasked with gaining buy-in, support, and collaboration from internal and external stakeholders. This is critical to the delivery of the concept of integrated water management. You will be fundamental to our stakeholder engagement activities, including the planning and delivery of effective communications products and events for the IWMF programme.
Our team works with colleagues from across the four Environment Agency operational areas within the OxCam Arc. In addition to Environment Agency national teams, Defra Group colleagues, and local stakeholders. We share skills and learning, maximising opportunities to test and trial new approaches, tools, and mechanisms. We seek to change the way that growth, our natural capital assets, and natural resources are planned for and protected for future generations.
We are looking for a proactive, motivated self-starter, with a flexible attitude. You will need to be organised and thrive in a fast-changing environment.
The key skills/ experience/ knowledge required:

•Experience planning quality engagement activities including stakeholder mapping and analysis, stakeholder workshops, and engagement activity facilitation.
•Experience creating engaging tools and communication products that communicate complex technical concepts simply to diverse audiences.
•An understanding of the importance of political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities.
•Good people skills with an ability to build and sustain excellent working relationships to deliver a high level of influencing.
•Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce high quality, plain English, briefings, updates, social media posts and press releases.
•The ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise workloads.
•An awareness of spatial planning and integrated planning concepts is desirable but not essential.
This role is office based (location flexible), with regular home working opportunities. As a dispersed team most of our work is virtual, however regular travel to London, our regional offices, and other venues will be required.
