As a scientist you will oversee and supervise a large , high throughput and diverse team. The Inorganics team is based on the Starcross site and the Exeter science park, you will mentor and develop its members to allow for safe quality delivery of critical scientific analysis with in an ISO17025 setting. You will provide technical information on a range of Inorganic methods and techniques and use this to drive the section forward in an ever changing landscape. You will provide support to all team members on a daily basis.
The NLS is accredited to ISO/IEC17025 with 4 sites across the country – Leeds Reading, Exeter Science Park and Starcross, and specialise in freshwater, saline and effluent analysis. Our Inorganics team at Starcross comprises of roughly 19 staff members, and is responsible for a wide range of Inorganic analytical methods that are essential in supporting the Environment Agency’s aims and objectives.
You must have experience with Inorganic chemistry and techniques and understand what challenges these bring.
You must be able to demonstrate your technical knowledge that will enable you to supervise and lead others within the team through training and mentoring. Communicating with the team and being a role model are essential.
You must enjoy working in a busy working environment, sometimes under pressure to achieve results. You'll need to demonstrate the key capabilities as defined in the Job Profile.
You are or have been working towards becoming a Registered Scientist with the Institute of Science and Technology (or similar) as part of your personal development and can show evidence of your continuous professional development in your time with the Environment Agency.
This role could be based at Starcross or Exeter Science Park
