We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment, helping to ensure that people can enjoy it. We look after the water environment and land quality, promoting sustainable land management and helping protect and enhance wildlife habitats. We also work closely with businesses, enabling them to operate whilst complying with relevant environmental regulations.
The National Permitting Service consists of 450 staff working across a broad range of environmental permits and licences.
We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated people to join our National Permitting Service in Nottingham as Permitting Team Leaders. You will manage and motivate a team of office based Permitting Officers who deal primarily with applications for either water quality or waste activities.
You will be responsible for the performance of your team, nurturing, inspiring and motivating them to deliver results to strict time and quality targets, whilst ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing. You will support your team during difficult licence/permit determinations, resolve difficulties and problems as required and seek help and/or escalate as appropriate. You’ll establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external partners focussing on customer service.
The Water Quality team protects our rivers, ground waters and coastal seas from potentially polluting discharges. The Waste Team assess the environmental impact of activities from a wide range of waste treatment, recovery and disposal activities. Both teams ensure that the environment and communities are protected from any risks posed by these activities whilst supporting sustainable economic growth. You will be part of a group of existing Team Leaders forming the Nottingham Centre Leadership Team.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
• The ability to lead a group of people and motivate them to deliver results.
• Excellent communication skills
• Confidence in your problem solving and decision making abilities
• Exemplary customer service and influencing skills
• Ability to support and develop individuals to achieve their potential. Either within their current role or beyond.
• A broad knowledge of Environment Agency duties and responsibilities
• The ability to work collaboratively with people throughout the organisation

Previous experience of leading a team and knowledge of the environmental permitting process or the waste or water industry is desirable.
Both of these posts are based at the Trentside Offices in Nottingham, though some travel will be required to attend meetings and training.
Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all of the training and support you need to succeed.
