Do you want to steer how we assess compliance, we set future direction, progress digital & data transformation and contribute to the Water Industry Transformation plans?

As the Senior Advisor you will join the Compliance, Incidents and Enforcement Team working with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, who are driving a step change in water quality compliance. You will support operations to deliver an increase regulatory activity.

You will ensure that our compliance strategies e.g. Inspections and Audits and Operator Self-Monitoring) and our compliance systems e.g. National Compliance Assessment Database are fit for purpose and ready for the future.

You will work on legislative improvements for example water quality exemptions, and you will liaise with DEFRA and other regulators to drive improvements in the water environment.

You will draw on your field experience of compliance issues with water companies and other dischargers.

We are a dispersed team and work with a wide range of technical teams across the Environment Agency and country.

We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You’ll have the option to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training will be available to support you with your incident role should you choose to have one.
You will join our Compliance, Incidents and Enforcement Team. We provide the national lead on water quality compliance.

We’re part of the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate which supports the Environment Agency by using evidence, expertise, and innovation to enhance and support delivery, influence policy, legislation, and secure resources. We steer the direction, set the priorities, and shape our organisation's approach to deliver environmental outcomes and better regulate.
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:

• ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work
• extensive water quality compliance experience
• water quality incident and enforcement experience
• ability to lead internal national networks and drive best practice
• confidence dealing with external stakeholders
• familiarity with Water Quality data and systems
• familiarity with our Freedom Of Information and information request processes
• CIWEM membership
