An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fisheries Technical Officer to join our Fisheries Biodiversity and Geomorphology (FBG) Team in Blandford Forum. This role will cover work and advice such as fisheries incident management, fish passage and habitat improvements, eel regulations, fish movement permitting, Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) schemes and maintenance programmes, planning applications, hydropower, flood risk activity permits and fisheries management advice, fisheries asset management, non-native fish investigations.
As part of our team you could also get involved in river habitat and fisheries improvement schemes and a variety of partnership projects aimed at delivering Water Framework Directive (WFD) outcomes and enhancing fisheries and biodiversity. You'll provide expert fisheries technical input to such projects and provide project management. You'll also provide high quality specialist advice to a variety of customers including anglers.
A good working knowledge of fish species, ecology, fish health and fisheries management will be needed with good IT and communication skills.
You'll join a friendly, passionate and high performing team which delivers a range of WFD and fisheries improvement projects which may require your advice and support. The team supports other internal and external partners focussing on delivering our WFD local priorities to create sustainable habitat and improved ecology.
You will develop your experience, to help conserve our natural resources in places of international importance for wildlife within the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Catchments.
We're seeking a technical officer with field and office-based experience and a proven ability of delivering fisheries and/or conservation work.
You'll have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline as well as being able to demonstrate the following:
Experience in fisheries regulation and management
A good understanding of fisheries management, as well as its practical implications for the work the Environment Agency does and that of its external partners.
Excellent positive communications, influencing and persuasion skills
The ability to build, develop and nurture relationships
Strong organisational skills, self starting and able to work independently planning and delivering own workload and able to work as part of a team
Project Management experience - desirable but not essential
Full UK driving licence required
Grade Rate £27,138 (pro rata)

Driving License
