The Environment Agency regulates emissions from a wide range of industries. We also work with the Health and Safety Executive to regulate high risk sites reducing the risk of major accidents. Noise and odour from industrial sites, if not properly controlled, can have a significant impact on the quality of life of those living or working nearby.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring effective regulation of industry to protect the environment and promote sustainable growth. You will help protect people’s quality of life whilst helping industry be good neighbours, comply with legislation and grow their businesses.

Working with Operations colleagues, Defra, other government departments and industry, you’ll help inform policy and develop processes that will create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment whilst supporting economic growth.

Your responsibilities may include:
• developing and improving regulatory strategy
• providing guidance, training and support
• providing specialist advice on monitoring and compliance for complex situations
• developing national and international standards for industrial technology and emissions
• delivering improved air quality and national emissions targets
• ensuring compliance with legislation
• providing expert advice and guidance on the implementation of legislation
• updating and administering our staff training and development programme
Our Regulated Industry teams regulate emissions, noise and odour from a wide range of major industries including combustion, refineries, waste incineration, chemicals, metals, cement and lime, food and drink, paper/pulp and textiles manufacture.

Our teams our dispersed widely across England to ensure that we have access to the best talent. Consequently you may not be sat directly with your team colleagues.
You will have an understanding of and experience in environmental regulation of industry either as a regulator or through working for a regulated industry. Because the regulatory work we do is so diverse, we are looking to recruit people from a range of backgrounds - experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
• noise
• odour
• combustion
• refineries
• waste incineration
• chemicals
• metals
• cement and lime
• food and drink

Membership of a professional organisation such as the Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Institute of Acoustics, etc. is not essential but may be an advantage.
Closing Date: 8th October 2018 at 23:55 hours
You will work as part of a national dispersed team and will be required to undertake regular travel, usually by public transport, to attend meetings, conferences and site visits.

You will be expected to engage with and support the Environment Agency’s wider incident management responsibilities which may include taking part in a duty rota to provide a 24 hour response to incidents. This is a team role and you’ll have back up from colleagues and incident support staff.

Salary is dependent on your skills and experience.
