An opportunity has arisen to lead the Sustainable Places (SP) London Team ( Herts and North London Area). Working alongside our Hatfield SP Team you will influence growth and development, focusing on North London. This is an area of intense development, so we need someone who can prioritise effectively. You should be a confident negotiator and enjoy influencing others.

The SP service is entering an exciting period of change which will require the team to develop a more commercial approach. You will be responsible for leading the team as the service evolves whilst maintaining good performance and excellent customer service. You will be required to work closely with other teams influencing on London issues, and the wider SP community.

You will have a key role to play in developing individuals and the team. New skills will be required as the SP service evolves to ensure we can continue to effectively meet current and future challenges.

You will also be a key member of the Area’s Leadership Group – working closely with other Team Leaders and the Senior Leadership Team to support, develop and motivate staff.
The team provide comprehensive and persuasive technical advice for planning proposals and strategies through the Town and Country Planning System to deliver environmental enhancements and protection. They work with a range of customers including local authorities, water companies and developers to influence strategic place based planning. Given the multifunctional nature of the teams work you will also be required to work closely with many other Area technical teams.
We are seeking someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will be complimented by your enthusiasm to achieve results and to lead and coach others to do the same. You will ideally have experience in leading teams and managing change.
You will be comfortable and effective working as part of the wider leadership team.
You will have excellent customer skills and experience in influencing and engaging with internal and external customers and stakeholders including those at a senior level. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and will be able to make decisions using available information and evidence.

The successful candidate will ideally have some awareness of the work done by Sustainable Places and how the Environment Agency can achieve its outcomes through this work. An understanding of the role and function of other Area teams will be useful.

The position attracts a London Weighting Allowance of £3,544 pa in addition to the advertised salary.

It will initially be based in Ergon House, London, although will relocate to Marsham Street, Westminster later in the year.
