We are seeking to recruit self-motivated people to join a busy Waste Regulatory Team in Lincolnshire. You will be on the front line in our campaign to ensure waste is safely stored, treated, recycled and disposed. Part of this role means dealing with various pollution incidents or illegal waste activities and so you will also be expected to take part in incident response duties and join our out of hour's duty rota
As an Environment Officer you will also be the public face of the Environment Agency dealing with requests from other local and national government partners as well as dealing with questions and reports from concerned members of the public. You will work closely with waste companies, employing your regulatory skills to ensure companies comply with their permits and where necessary taking the right enforcement options. Further technical training will be provided and continued professional development is a focus for all Environment Agency staff.
No two days will be the same as you use your skills and experience to influence how we deal with the waste we all create and in doing so play an essential role in protecting our environment.
The North Waste team covers a wide and varied number of rural and urban sites from the Humber to the Wash. We are a tight knit and mutually supportive team of dedicated officers with varying levels experience.
We are split between two office locations; one in Lincoln and one at Manby near Louth.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
Completed Environment Officer or other appropriate training and/or have equivalent regulatory skills and experience.
Have good IT skills
Feel confident in using your persuading and influencing skills to achieve the right outcomes,
Have the ability to adapt your approach as the situation changes.
Be a good communicator, with excellent written, oral and listening skills
Be able to develop and maintain good customer and working relationships
Have good work management and organisational skills; the ability to prioritise is important,
Have an eye for detail and be a good risk assessor
Understand that team working is essential, whilst being confident working and taking reasoned decisions independently.
Have good Health, Safety and Wellbeing awareness; looking out for yourselves and others.

Driving licence is essential, travelling by car between offices and permitted locations means you will be out of office for significant periods. Travel for national training may be required.

Your role as an environment officer will be busy and varied. You may need to make decisions to prioritise your own workload on a daily basis.
