The Partnership & Strategic Overview teams take the lead on a range of activities, you’ll work to develop flood risk management strategies into deliverable engineering projects. From assessing development plans and raising any potential issues, to progressing projects through to completion on ground, you’ll oversee and manage a range of flood and coastal risk management projects.

We’ll look to you to work with a range of key stakeholders to identify beneficiaries and potential external contributors to projects, who you’ll negotiate with to secure partnership funding that will enable projects to proceed. In addition to using your expertise to guide operational teams and drive best practice, you’ll also mentor and provide training to less experienced members of the team.

The team also provide flood risk planning advice to ensure that future development is sustainable and issue flood defence consents to ensure that works on main rivers and the coast do not increase flood risk or harm the environment. You will be expected to contribute to these works streams at a strategic level. You will also work with the team to develop an evidence based investment programme that extends beyond our current six year investment plan.
At the Environment Agency, our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) department plays a huge part in the work we do, helping reduce flood risk to people and property. Within FCRM sit our Partnership & Strategic Overview teams, who are responsible for setting the strategic direction for all flood and coastal risk management activities. In this important role, you’ll play a major part in helping to protect the homes and lives of residents from flooding.
Ideally, you’ll have excellent knowledge of flood risk management from working in a flood risk management role. And whether your background’s in engineering or project management, you’ll definitely have strong communication skills and a great customer focus. Confident to build relationships with external partners and internal teams, you’ll be committed to working collaboratively to achieve our goals.

You’ll also have a can-do attitude and be dedicated to driving your own professional development. And if you’ve got experience of strategic planning and project or programme management, that’s even better.
