This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the dynamic and ambitious leadership team creating a greener, resilient and sustainable future for Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire (GMMC).

GMMC comprises over 5 million people living in the country’s second biggest growth area with the associated opportunities and challenges. You will know how to make the best use of available resources to deliver outcomes for the benefit of people living and working in GMMC, which align well with the priorities of the Environment Agency. You will play a leading role in shaping our five year local outcome plan which converts our ambition into delivery.

This is an important and challenging role. We are seeking proven leaders with a flexible approach and the ability to lead a diverse department, delivering our business and people priorities. Initially you may be leading our FCRM or Operations teams. Our Area Leadership team work as ‘one team’ and you may be required to respond to business demand and lead a different department within the Area in the future.

We have a number of Area Leadership Team roles available, both permanent and temporary. Temporary roles are advertised with a view to becoming permanent in the future.
As part of our area leadership team, you are jointly responsible for providing steer and strategic direction to nearly 400 staff. Although we manage a diverse range of department and teams, we work as a team to support each other and respond to the opportunities and challenges facing such a diverse area.
Our people are our number one priority. You will be passionate about leading, developing and supporting people and will be a positive role model who can inspire others.

You will manage a busy portfolio of work and be able to adopt and embed new approaches so we stay at the forefront of operational delivery.

A great collaborator and facilitator, you will need to deliver results through others from across the organisation and through our partners. You will be effective at influencing and persuading, be an adept communicator and have a strong customer and partner focus.

You will use these skills and your understanding of business processes to shape how the organisation operates and be confident in representing the Environment Agency to influence senior external stakeholders.
