This is an exciting opportunity to join the Anglian Waterways Team. You will lead the Waterways Operations Team covering the River Nene, Lincolnshire Waterways and Northampton marina. The role provides expert advice and knowledge on the ‘day to day’ management of navigation with particular emphasis on public safety, customer interactions and enforcement work. The role is key to delivering a sustainable navigation business, ensuring our waterways are self-funding, attractive to customers and able to manage the impacts of a changing climate.

You will:

Lead a field based team who manage public safety, customer liaison, navigation enforcement and income generation.
Promote and reinforce the Environment Agency’s vision and culture. Motivate and empower team members to achieve their potential.
Build effective relationships, internally and externally.
Manage the team budgets, identifying risk and efficiency savings and ensuring end of financial year targets are met.
Manage and promote Health Safety and Wellbeing of team members, while ensuring the correct training is received and competencies are maintained.
You will join a passionate and supportive team of navigation experts with a wide range of knowledge and experience. You will work with a wide range of teams both locally and nationally, as well as external partners, to proactively identify and influence opportunities to deliver navigation benefits.
We are seeking a Team Leader with leadership experience. You will be able to provide clear direction, instruction and guidance through effective performance management whilst recognising strengths, vulnerabilities and motivations within a team. You’ll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and possess proven ability and/or knowledge of operations, particularly in relation to health and safety (including public safety) and customer service. You will have excellent communication skills and be used to working with customers and user groups, managing expectations and negotiating for the Agency. Financial and commercial management experience are important in this role. Experience in enforcement work would be beneficial.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
