At the Environment Agency we protect and improve the environment, acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re investing £5.2 billion between 2021 and 2027 in our Capital Programme that will reduce flood risk to 336,000 properties across the UK. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support the management of our ambitious Flood & Coastal Risk Management programmes.

This role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills, for example:-

• Tracking project progress and performance.
• Collecting, reporting, analysing and interpreting financial/timeline data on the projects.
• Preparing reports and presentations highlighting programme performance.
• Developing and improving data quality performance across projects through current and new systems.
• Generate programme analysis for National teams / senior management and statutory committees to enable decision making.
• Advising on programme risks and opportunities.
• Help develop integration across programmes and disciplines.
• Initiating / embedding new ways of working across Area teams including training.
• Working with Risk Management Authorities and the Regional Flood Coastal Committees to support embedding of standards.
The Programme Team tracks spending, delivery and performance in completing programmes to create new flood defences, repair and maintain defences and routine river maintenance. We advise on the status of the programme, risks and opportunities. This role is key to understanding our programme delivered by a range of different teams. We also supply information to national teams and the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee, and brief communities, politicians and partners on progress.
Through experience, you should be able to demonstrate the following:-

• Excellent data management skills and experience of interpreting large data sets.
• Competent in Microsoft Excel/Word, and demonstrable experience of undertaking and summarising statistical analysis would be an advantage. As such you must be highly numerate and enjoy working with figures to analyse, interpret and present data.
• Ability to learn new systems and embed them into standard ways of working.
• Produce standard and bespoke management reports aiding decision making.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to present convincing verbal and written advice to key stakeholders.
• Proactive approach and fresh perspective will ensure you’re always looking towards continuous improvement.
