We have a temporary grade 5 vacancy for a Hydrologist to join a busy team working across the West Midlands area focusing on developing our area’s low flow models. Your role will include building a suite of models to support low flow resource planning and forecasting. As well as having substantial technical knowledge, you will be required to work collaboratively to produce these models to support drought planning and management for the future.
The successful candidate will be able to operate a number of hydrological models, whilst interpreting different modelling parameters to establish consistent baseline datasets.
The West Midlands Hydrology Team which currently consists of 7 Hydrologists delivering work across Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands. The Team provides technical expertise and advice on a range of water resource management projects including Water Framework Directive, Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies, Restoring Sustainable Abstraction programme, water resource management plans and determining water resources licences. We report regularly on the water situation, providing analysis and advice to support drought management.
Expertise in numerical modelling and its application to rainfall run off models such as HYSIM, PDM, Catchmod and others is essential. An understanding of hydrology and groundwater properties is expected and preferably a related academic qualification. You must have the ability to communicate complex modelling concepts and the impacts of modelling outputs to a non-technical audience as well as the ability to coach others in technical subjects. Ideally you will have some experience of model programming.
You will deliver work to high standards and be able to prioritise tasks to achieve results.
