We’re looking for an Environmental Monitoring Assistant to join the Sampling and Collection Team. The role includes field and office-based tasks across various disciplines including water quality sampling, ecology sampling, hydrometric borehole dipping and fish surveys.

You will have responsibilities to;
• use and calibrate field instrumentation to strict specifications;
• maintain databases for site information and equipment records;
• understand customer requirements and help resolve local issues;
• adhere to health & safety best practice, undertake site and task specific risk assessments ensuring you use
safe working practices to comply with our policies and standards;
• promote monitoring techniques/technologies such as the use of smart applications on mobile devices to
schedule and collect sampling tasks.
The Sampling and Collection Team collects key data and information that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory reporting and regulatory responsibilities. The data and information is used by a variety of internal and external customers. The team is currently dispersed across Kent & South London and has access to a number of depots across the Area.
You will be comfortable working outdoors, safely in adverse weather conditions. You will be able to work in and near water and be able to swim. You must also be competent in the use of computers and mobile technologies.

Our successful candidate will be enthusiastic and reliable with great interpersonal and communication skills, and they will have the ability to work effectively on their own as well as being a team player. Key requirements for this job include good organisational skills, good computer literacy in Word and Excel, and a good eye for attention to detail This is a great role for a person with a passion for science and the environment.

Full training will be given where appropriate.

You will need a full UK driving licence for this role.
Our staff are all expected to undertake incident roles which may be out of hours and a fee payable.
The role will be based in the Canterbury office but the fieldwork covers a large geographical area across Kent & South London. You will be provided with a vehicle for fieldwork and expected to work alone in both remote rural and urban locations.
