We're looking for a Navigation Officer to join our small, multi-functional navigation team at Allington Lock near Maidstone. The role will include a variety of activities such as small construction projects, vegetation control, tree work, boat work, enforcement, sluice keeping and customer service. You will also be committed to taking part in a standby rota and weekend working patterns.
We are the navigation authority for the Upper Medway Navigation in Kent and are responsible for maintaining the river channel, its locks, weirs and sluices between Tonbridge and Maidstone. The team have a broad range of skills from enforcement activity through to operating large construction plant. We are also a customer facing, front line service and the team takes pride in providing highly rated facilities such as canoe slides, camping cabins, toilets and showers.
Experience/skills required –
• You'll hold a full driving licence.
• You'll have experience of physical work outside with good knowledge and skills to use small powered tools and garden machinery.
• Have basic computer and accounting skills.

Desirable:
• Have a good understanding on how locks, weirs and sluice gates work.
• Have knowledge and practical skills in minor construction work, and experience of following Health and
Safety procedures and risk assessments.
• Have experience of helming boats and possess a boating qualification.
• 4x4 vehicle and trailer towing trained.
