We are developing a new National Flood Risk Assessment to change our understanding of flood risk across England. This risk assessment is dependent on having good local data in the right systems, and so this first phase of this project is to invest time improving our data to where we need it to be. You will be improving the quality of flood risk data using your data and GIS skills. You’ll also be engaging and communicating with local colleagues to ensure that you can maximise the benefit of their local expertise and their knowledge of their data.

You will have an enthusiasm for data, demonstrable experience of data management and experience of using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Working with your Area colleagues you will be improving the quality of local data and updating various systems that will be key to our new National Flood Risk Assessment (NaFRA2).
This post is in our Data Improvements team that sits within National Modelling and Forecasting. You’ll be embedded within a local team in Worthing and drawing on the expertise of a larger team across the country.
Modelling and Forecasting are a national team who provide community-scale flood risk information for area and national teams, partners and the public.
You’ll be building on your existing GIS and data management skills and will be fully supported with the tools and guidance you need to carry out your role.
Through your experience you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
• Have an enthusiasm for data and be skilled in data management
• Strong Geographic Information Systems skills. ESRI ArcGIS desirable.
• Have a physical science background or a relevant degree / professional qualification
• Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands
• Be able to show where you’ve worked with others
