We're looking for a Team Leader to provide maternity cover for the East Anglia (East) Sustainable Places Team.

The SP service has been evolving for the past couple of years with a need to work more strategically and increase income to the team to compensate for increasing budget pressures. It is an exciting time for SP with the growth agenda getting strong support from senior management and it forming a key part of the emerging 5 year action plan. We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic person to lead and inspire the team and wider area over the next year to make the most of these opportunities and challenges.

You will be required to work closely with the SP team in East Anglia (West), the national SP Team Leader community and National Office SP colleagues. You will also be a key member of both the Environment Planning and Engagement and Water Land and Biodiversity leadership teams – working closely with other East Anglia Managers and Team Leaders to support, develop and motivate staff.

This is a fixed term assignment until February 2021 - INTERNAL CANDIDATES you must seek agreement from your line manager to apply for this role.
The team provide comprehensive and persuasive technical advice for planning proposals and strategies through the Town and Country Planning System to deliver environmental enhancements and protection. They work with a range of customers including local authorities, water companies and developers to influence strategic place based planning.

Given the multifunctional nature of the teams work you will also be required to work closely with many other Area teams as well as the WLB Business group.
We are seeking someone with strong organisational awareness, excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will be complemented by your enthusiasm to achieve results and to lead and coach others to do the same.

You will ideally have experience in leading teams and managing change.

You will be comfortable and effective working as part of the wider EPE leadership team.

You will have excellent customer skills and experience in influencing and engaging with internal and external customers and stakeholders including those at a senior level. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to work and will be able to make decisions using available information and evidence.

The successful candidate will ideally have some awareness of the work done by Sustainable Places and how the Environment Agency can achieve its outcomes through this work. An understanding of the role and function of other Area teams will be useful.
Start date: Mid-February 2020
