We’re looking for an experienced Senior Landscape Architect to join our National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) team to provide the support required to deliver innovative and cost-effective environmental outcomes for major water management infrastructure projects.
You will play an important role in helping the Environment Agency reduce flood risk to 300,000 homes across the UK by 2021. You will work within a team of dedicated landscape architects, heritage, SEA and EIA expert advisers who make an important contribution to the planning and delivery of our projects and programmes in the South West.
The support provided will ensure we consider the effects of our works on the landscape by working in collaboration with our suppliers and external consultees to obtain the relevant consents and agreements, and by securing appropriate mitigation and environmental improvements to ensure that our projects create a better place for people and wildlife. You will also form a key member of a wider “virtual team” of landscape architects in other NEAS teams based elsewhere in England.
Your work will include defining the scope, developing programmes of work, input to procurement, bid evaluation and quality assuring landscape and environmental design consultancy work.

Our National Environmental Assessment & Sustainability team (NEAS) works with the Flood and Coastal Risk Management teams to help protect against flooding and minimise the risks caused by any floods that do occur. The work we do directly and with others ensures our actions reduce flood risk and provide environmental and social benefits. NEAS work in integrated project teams, managing or supporting the delivery of environmental impact assessments (EIA) or strategic environmental assessments (SEA).
You should have sound knowledge and experience of landscape planning, design and construction, green infrastructure and of strategic landscape approaches for developing and delivering multiple environmental and social benefits. You will help develop a landscape visioning based approach as an important part of your work.
You will have effective communication and influencing skills and be able to work as a key adviser within and to project teams.
You’ll be qualified to graduate standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and be a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute with relevant professional experience.
You will work within diverse project teams comprising landscape architects, heritage, and EIA expert advisers as well as consultants, project managers and contractors.
You will have effective communication and influencing skills and be able to work as a key adviser within and to project teams.
You’ll be qualified to graduate standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and be a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute with relevant professional experience.
You will work within diverse project teams comprising landscape architects, heritage, and EIA expert advisers as well as consultants, project managers and contractors.
You will need to hold a full UK driving licence. The roles require some travel and overnight stays.
